I am that person who will take 15 selfies before getting the one I love. I will be the first to admit that being photogenic has not always been my strong suite, however I consider it a blessing. A blessing because the challenge has helped me to relate to our clients on a whole new level. I’ve had to learn secrets + ticks to make myself appear more photogenic in photos and in turn I have used these to help our clients feel + look amazingly photogenic as well. I wanted to share the goodness with y’all!
.) By far my number one tip is to elongate your neck and push your face forward a bit. Think of sticking out your forehead and tipping your chin slightly down. This highlights the jawline, thins the face, tightens the skin and gives an all over radiant youthful look. LOVE THIS ONE!
.) Take a look at your favorite pictures of yourself and try to see a pattern. Do you like the way you look from a certain angle or side? When you smile a specific way? Keep this knowledge in your back pocket so you can replicate it next time you have your photo taken.
.) Turn ¾ to show your body from an angle and create shadows + depth in your pose. Facing a camera straight on makes the body appear flattened + wider, turning to the side will give a slim sleek look. (always a bonus)
.) Bend your joints. How often do you find yourself standing or sitting perfectly straight, with all your joints in line? Probably very rarely or never. Add both movement and a sense of natural poise to your photos by allowing your joints to bend slightly. This means that your elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles should all be comfortably bent. If it can bend, bend it!
.) Genuinely share your emotions. We realize that getting your photo taken can be nerve-wrecking at first, but don’t let it get in the way of your true feelings. Creating the smile you think you need tends to look forced or fake, use your regular smile. The more you allow your natural emotions to show on your face, the better your pictures will look.
