One of the things Brandon + I love to do is share our work with other creatives so we can all collectively grow together. We believe that rising tides truly do lift all boats.  We also believe that when creatives come together with the goal of, serving from the heart + taking amazing care of clients, an incredible thing happens…

The photos that Brandon + I capture are an extension of our hearts, who we are created to be and the love we have to offer to this world. We put every bit of who we are and the talent we have been given into each photograph. The direction of our journey is to Capture Moments of God’s Glory for as many people as possible. This is why photo credit is so important to us. If the rising tides are going to lift all boats we need vendors who use our images to give us photo credit so we can continue to serve more and more clients with amazing love. This also allows perspective clients to learn about who we are and experience the real relationship we want to cultivate with them.

Here are a few tips we do to ensure photo credit
1. We give what we are asking for. What I mean by that is, if I am posting images for print, blog, social media or any professional capacity I am sure to give credit to the vendors in the photos. So if I am photographing a gorgeous wedding cake and later use it on FB I tag the baker. When I use that photo in my blog post I will share a credit and link to the baker. If that photo gets published in a magazine I include the bakers name + their website link when submitting the image.

2. Ask for the credit. When I release images to be used for print, blog, social media or any professional capacity I include in an email the request for a photo credit. I looks something like this:

“Hi Friends!
We wanted to again express our sincerest thanks for all your hard work. I blogged a few of the images recently here: Breathtaking + Stunning + Elegant + Classy… Karen & Joe and listed the creative team credit in the post to ensure everyone knew who created such a beautiful day!

The images are not watermarked, but please note that if the images are used in print, online, or any professional capacity, photo credit is required. Please cite Horn Photography and Design.

Thank you for all your hard work. We are honored to have documented your craftsmanship and I look forward to our paths crossing again in the near future!”

3. Love don’t assume. In the case that a photo is posted without a photo credit to you, STAY CALM! What ever you do, don’t freak out in a fit of rage. I am here to tell you that if this happens 99.9% of the time it was not to steal your work, to discredit you or to offend you. If a photo credit is missed it is most likely done by mistake. Remember we are all extremely busy and trying to manage life the best we can. The better thing to do is to contact the vendor or publication with love + a big smile. Let then know that you adore working with them, they did a fabulous job and you are looking forward to working together more and more helping to facilitate growth. Follow this by asking them to add the photo credit to your image.
