Seven years ago when we started our business the biggest dream was:
- To work from home doing what we loved!
Since then our business has grown beyond our dream, we now have:
- A professional home office
- A private studio attached to our home to meet with clients
- Both of us are full time with our business
- We book between 30-40 weddings per year depending on our travel schedule
- We have been published by several well known wedding publications
- We have received many awards for our photography
- And we are often asked to share advice with photographers on everything from shooting to running their business
I listed out what we have now because well… it’s nice to see on paper. But the truth is, those were not dreams of ours, those were products of our dream to work from home doing what we love. As we have grown so has our business, its been a blessing from God and one that is forever changing and evolving. Our dream has also evolved to owning 10 acres of land and building our own tiny home on it. We want to live simply and self sustaining. Most people look at us like we are crazy but to us this is a big dream.
Many people have asked us, “why not start to expand your business, bring on more photographers, take on more weddings, make more money, travel more??!!
All we have is a simple answer, we really don’t want more, we love where we are right now. We like to connect with our clients on a personal level, bringing on “more photographers”, “more weddings” and “more traveling” will take away from that. Part of doing what we love for us truly means connecting with others and capturing moments of God’s Glory! We enjoy being apart of every aspect of our business and working hard.
The reason we shared this today is because we want others to know that you don’t need to have the “BIG DREAM” of: Owning your own business that shoots over a 100 weddings each year with multiple photographers, tons of awards… etc to grow your business. It’s ok to have a Humble Dream. One that is simple and sweet and let it blossom how it will.
God said, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
God will take your dream and lead it where He needs it to be. Trust in Him and He will do amazing things. Take delight in what seems to be a small humble dream for those are the best to have:)
Blessings,
Michelle + Brandon Horn
