Thankful Thursday: The Practice of Daily Thankful Mornings

It’s been quite some time since we did a Thankful Thursday post but we felt like Lent was the perfect time to pick these back up again. If you follow us on instagram you may have read our recent Sunday post about our practice of being thankful each morning. It’s a little tradition we began a few years ago.

Somewhere along our journey of marriage someone said to us, “what if we were to wake up one day without all the things we forgot to thank God for the day before”. WOW for us that hit home. And we thought to ourselves when was the last time we thanked God for…

* Our sight
* Our ability to hear
* Our entire body
* Each other
* Our family + friends
* Our home and each item in it
* Our past
* Our clothing
* Nature
* Sunrise + Sunsets
* The smell of fresh cut grass

And the list goes on almost endlessly for us. From that moment on we became a couple of thankfulness and through this thankfulness we have also become people who have peaceful minds as a result. But, we discovered that each day we have to practice that thankfulness to achieve that peaceful mind. So easily that peace is taken away by the distraction of…

* Selfish neediness
* Consumerism
* The thought – am I enough
* Fear

Making a thankful list in our minds each morning takes that all away. Instead it makes us feel like the riches people on earth. Rich in blessings, love, a beautiful home, amazing family + friends, a wonderful live and all our needs met. We give all credit to God and allow our hearts to rest in him along.
