Maintaining Sanity In This Busy World: Our Daily Schedule

So last year Brandon joined me full time with the Business, I was doing happy dances all over the house! It was my dream to start my own business 8 years ago so I did. But within the first year I realized I wanted to run it with my husband, granted he was my second shooter but I wanted it to be more then that. 7 years ago I went full time with our business and just last year my little heart exploded with joy when God said it was time for Brandon to come full time with me too!

What I did NOT expect…

This entire time I thought Brandon joining me would mean more time for us to do the things we love. However, that is not quite how it worked out. Instead we ended up working more and harder then ever! It was both exciting and exhausting at the same time. I was watching us grow our business and us become sleep deprived zombies.

We needed a change, a plan and a hardcore schedule! 

At the beginning of this year we put a schedule and plan of action in place and long be hold, its been working. We have tweaked our schedule over the last few weeks and have found even a better “norm”. We wanted to share what our day looks like because we receive several inquiries to how we get everything done and still have time for LIFE!

Here is what that new normal looks like for us.

This is us at 7:30 am – in all of our just out of bed messiness!

7:30 am Wake-Up

I’m a “wake up with the sun” kind of person so this changes with the season and right now it is 7:30. As we get into summer that will soon begin to move to 6:30 as the time changes. Brandon is not a morning person, however we have found that when we wake up together and go to sleep together both our personal and work life jive more. We get more done and we have more free time together.

7:45 am – 8:15 am Morning Prayer

Starting our day off with prayer has been the best thing we have ever done. I love when I cuddle up on the couch with my journal and Brandon sits on the floor leaning back on the couch in front of me with his guitar playing prays and worship. It brings peace + focus to the start of our day.

8:15 am Breakfast

I always say a couple that eats together stays together. We eat almost all our meals together, we both love to cook and of corse we both love to eat. Enjoying a whole food organic plant based diet has enriched out health + our life. By the way if your looking for a great food blogger check out Oh She Glows, we just love her recipes!

9:00 am – 2:00 pm Work Using a Block Schedule 

I have been researching and learning about our mind and bodies most productive times of the day for the past 2 years. You would not believe how much there is on the subject. But really it all boils down to this: we are most productive between the hours of 9am – 2pm. We need short breaks every 60 -90 min. And a 4 hr work day is ideal. Block scheduling your day works best and setting timers to keep you on track is a life savor. For us we need a little more then 4 hours so we give ourselves 6 hrs, that dose not include photo shoots.  Getting done each day by 2pm has been so life giving! We are literally living again and it feels great.

3:00 p.m. Exercise

We prefer to exercise after work. It gives us a clean break from work and allows us to reenergize, especially if it was a full day at the computer. It gets us up and moving!

4:00 pm  – 9:00 pm Adventure + Dinner + Home

Right after we workout, it’s time to get the dogs out for their workout. We will either go for a hike in the mountains, find a gorgeous waterfall, hidden old mine or throw the ball for them in the huge open field near our home. We get time to enjoy nature and soak in life without a screen in front of us. We come home, shower up and make dinner together while sipping on some fresh homemade juice or a glass of wine. And we typically end our day by picking up the house a bit and then cuddling on the couch with a favorite show or movie.

9:00 pm

Screens off.  At 9 pm we call all screens off, no TV, no cellphones nothing. We give ourselves and hour to wind down, get ready for bed and cuddle under the sheets and read a little. We have found that turning everything off an hour before bed helps us to sleep well.


I feel like I should have put a long post alert up! If you read the entire post know that we LOVE YOU!   We could actually write so much more on this as we have learned so much over the past year and how important it is to keep a healthy life balance.  It makes us stronger in our marriage and our business.
