TRUTH– we all deal with fear + negativity at some point in the pursuit of our dreams. But how we deal with the fear + negativity can define our business and who we are as a son or daughter of God.
Brandon and I recently entered the Shoot & Share photo contest. As soon as I announced our entry I received a private message that read…
“Gosh I wish I had the guts to enter. I feel like my work would be cut right from the start! It’s just not good enough. I’m sure everyone would hard core critique my photos at this point. How did you know when you work was finally good enough?”
Dear How Did You Know,
We entered the contest for fun, to see what happens. We have gone in with the mind set of, if we get 1st place or get cut on the first draft, IT’S ALL GOOD! We are in this contest for FUN, to meet other creatives, to be apart of a greater community and to gain exposure. The contest does not define our business or who we personally are, nor will it define you or your business. IT’S FOR FUN. I stress that because sometimes in life we can take things to seriously.
Does that sound mean? It’s not meant to, its just the truth.
We have to remember that the way others view our work is completely subjective – based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions. And everyone has there own opinion. This brings me to fear + negativity. There are so many individuals who hold themselves back because of fear – fear that they are not good enough and others will judge them harshly.
“Faith is confident assurance concerning what we hope for, and conviction about things we do not see.” – Hebrews 11:1
Courage working with faith enables us to use the gifts and talents God has given us and trusting that we are doing our work to the best of our ability. We are defined only by Him and so is the work we do for Him. Your work, where you are at right now is good enough. I will repeat that…You are good enough!
Within your photography business there is only one thing that matters, the happiness of your clients! As someone who is running their business for and with God serving others and loving them well is the mission. When your clients are exuberant about their photos and LOVE the experience you provided them – you are successful. So cast fear + negative to the side. YOU ARE ENOUGH!
