Abbigale + Keaton’s military wedding was breathtaking. This past weekend they exchanged their vows at St. Luke Catholic Church in Dahlonega Georgia followed by an amazing reception at Blue Mountain Vineyards! Also, what a wonderful way to celebrate Keatons return home. Literally just hours before, on Friday, he was given leave to arrive home so they could become husband + wife. Seriously, so many tears of joy filled their wedding day!
<Growing Up in a Small Town
As fait would have it, Abbigale and Keaton grew up I the same little town went to the same school and yet they never met and hung out until their senior year of high school. How crazy life is; the love of your life always just a shoulder brush away from you but never meeting them until your senior year of high school! It makes Brandon and I wonder just how many amazing moments and experiences people are only a shoulder brush away.
Growing up they both hung out with separate groups of friends. Even after they met their senior year of high school they ended up going to separate colleges, well at first, until they both felt a pull to come home to UNG. God had other plans for them, very very good ones filled with so much love.
It Began with a Trip
The week that Abbigale turned 23, Keaton took her on a trip to North Carolina. The two of them danced the night away and enjoyed Spanish tapas. The next day they toured the Biltmore and just as they were leaving Abbigale asked if they could go to the gazebo which overlooked the amazing views from the Biltmore. Having a grand surprise in mind, Keaton was elated that she asked to get a photo there. It was the perfect place for him to propose. As the two of them gazed over the beauty before them, he dropped to one knee and asked her to be his wife! Obviously she said yes.
That wonderful yes turned into this gorgeous military wedding day!
This U.S. Military Wedding was complete with a Church Grand Exit and a bag piper to lead the way!
Following the ceremony we snuck these two amazing souls away for romanic photos.
The bag piper also played at the reception for a private first dance surrounded by their bridal party. This military wedding was so much fun!
And the it was parents first dances.
Military Traditions
To top it all off Abbigale + Keaton cut their cake with Keaton’s Military Sword. If the bride or groom is an officer (or an NCO for the Marines), they may use a ceremonial military sword to cut the cake. Traditionally, the groom presents the sword to his bride, which is done over the arm with the blade pointed outward. Then with his hand over hers, they cut the cake together.
With a playful cake smash they both got a little messy so the two of them headed up to the bridal suite where Abbigale changed into her reception dress.
We then snuck back outside for a few more golden light photos surrounded by tall golden grass. So perfect!
Dear Abbigale + Keaton,
Congratulations on your beautiful sacrament of marriage. We pray that this year and all the years to come are filled with abundant blessings from God. And in keeping with the Scottish tradition we wanted to send you a Scottish blessing:
“May the blessing of light be on you, light without and light within. May the blessed sunlight shine on you like a great peat fire, so that stranger and friend may come and warm himself at it. And may light shine out of the two eyes of you, like a candle set in the window of a house, bidding the wanderer come in out of the storm. May the blessing of the rain be on you, may it beat upon your Spirit and wash it fair and clean, and leave there a shining pool where the blue of Heaven shines, and sometimes a star. And may the blessing of the earth be on you, soft under your feet as you pass along the roads, soft under you as you lie out on it, tired at the end of day; and may it rest easy over you when, at last, you lie out under it. May it rest so lightly over you that your soul may be out from under it quickly; up and off and on its way to God. And now may the Lord bless you, and bless you kindly.”
Thank you so much for choosing us as your photographers & videographers, it was a true honor documenting an unforgettable part of your amazing love story.
Love + Blessings,
